So, What Happened to the Diaper Valet?

In January 2007, Jim's aunt and I launched an online business selling a compact diaper bag of our own design. We greatly appreciated positive responses from our customers and other blogs.

Well, we just added ourselves to the 50% of new business that close doors in the first year.

We love our product, had great experiences with customers, and had regular (and repeat customers).

The problem is that Monica and I both have a lot of commitments. She's a splendid tailor with a burgeoning custom sewing business, a dedicated grandma who provides a lot of care for two very active grandsons, a great cook, and a sort of cruise director for her siblings, parents, children, and extended family. There's nothing more fun than Halloween hayrides, chili stirred with an oar, and a pumpkin pinata at Mo's farm.

But we're a greedy family. We wanted Mo's time for ourselves. We'd rather have her sitting at the table telling jokes and kicking our butts at Scrabble than working behind her sewing machine extra hours.

We discussed having the bags made by subcontractors, but if you bought one, you know that Mo's quality standards are high. We really couldn't have found a good replacement.

So we have officially shut our web doors. Thanks for your past business and praise for a our product. It really was a lovely experience.

So sad! Any chance of selling extra stock? I was looking to get one for my second's impending birth :)

Like jen, I'm also wondering if you have any extra stock (pre-made).

We've been out of the "diaper carrying" stage for awhile now, but I would love to get one for my 2nd.

Hi Christy-

Send me an email at babytoolkit [at] gmail [dot] com. I think Mo may have one or two left.

Could you sell pattern for it online? It might be a little extra cash without all the extra work? I would love to make one for myself.

Those diaper bags are really beautiful. It's really sad to hear that you guys have shut your business down. Any plans of starting it in future??

Sad to hear! That was my first proper diaper bag (it also started an addiction to bags small and practical). Now I'll treasure it even more since there is no replacement :)

Hi Lilia!

Thank you again for being our first overseas customer! I was so worried that your bag would never get to you after our problems with the first mailing. Thanks for your patience.

How is the dissertation progressing? How is your little one?

Thanks, Michael.

That's a very good question. I wish I knew the answer.

Your sling carriers look ingenious by the way.

I'm so sorry to hear this! I love my valet. It was nice to have something practical that looked so cool (instead of looking like the pink and blue fairy urped all over it). Where will parents with good sense go now for well-made praticality?

Oh, this is such a shame! I'm doubly glad to have snapped one up now I know they'll no longer be available; I use mine daily and am constantly receiving compliments and getting people asking me where I got my awesome bag! :D

What a shame! I didn't even realize you made these, and those bags are exactly what I have been looking for! :(

I'm so sad. I know I'm over a year late with this. I've had my diaper valet for some time and given a few away. It is so absolutely perfect! We're potty training my last one now and we use it to have diapers, extra underwear, extra shorts etc, etc, etc. Any chance the diaper valet will be making a comeback? Or patterns like someone else mentioned? It's just an awesome product!! In fact, a local shop in town wanted to look into selling the diaper valet at their store because I talked about how awesome it is.
